L’Homme by Elie Saab is a woody aromatic fragrance for men, created by Pierre-Constantin Guéros and released in 2025.
The fact that one of the world’s most highly regarded haute fashion houses was finally launching a signature pillar fragrance for men was an exciting development for fragrance enthusiasts worldwide.
In my situation, I didn’t know this was their first men’s fragrance until I had bought it, and I hadn’t had any expectations about the scent.

For many years, Elie Saab has dominated the luxury women’s perfume market, creating dreams from bright orange blossoms, sweet jasmine, and delicious gourmand notes.
That was all I knew about them, which is why this review will be very useful to people who are thinking of buying the fragrance without any prior knowledge, or those who want to learn more before they go to their local fragrance shop to see it.

PERFUME PRESENTATION
The bottle is a great example of luxury design. Inspired by Lalique’s crystal and glass work, it’s made from thick, clear glass with sharp vertical lines along the sides.
The design stands out right away. The glass has a bold black gradient that starts dark at the top and fades toward the bottom, showing the golden liquid inside. This ombre look matches the fragrance’s shift from dark to light.
The bottle has a heavy cap with a black leather-like texture. The top features the Elie Saab monogram, a nod to the brand’s couture background. The atomiser works well, spraying a wide, fine mist for easy use.
All of this comes from my experience of seeing and holding the bottle a couple of times at a perfume shop.
In this case, it is the first time I purchased a refill bottle of a scent, and by doing so I saved a bunch of money.
All in all, most of the expensive niche brands would give anything to create something great- looking. Great job!
NOTE BREAKDOWN

In this section of my Scent Grail review, I’ll dive into the note breakdown that plays a crucial role in shaping the identity of a fragrance.
Understanding how the top, heart, and base notes interact can provide valuable insight into the scent’s overall character.
Whether you’re considering adding a fragrance to your collection or are simply curious about how the notes unfold, this breakdown will help you appreciate the craftsmanship and both the positive and negative aspects of a particular fragrance.
PERFUME NOTES
- TOP NOTES: Pink Pepper, Bergamot
- HEART NOTES: Vetiver, Cedarwood
- BASE NOTES: Myrrh, Patchouli
TOP NOTES
Having read the majority of the other comments fragrance enthusiasts have made about this release, I have reached several conclusions, but will mention only one.
The well-known saying that “the customer is always right when it comes to taste” is entirely out of date, and, given the negative criticism this scent has attracted, it suggests that most people have questionable taste.
If they really have good taste in perfumery, scents like Elysium from Roja and Imagination from Louis Vuitton would never have received so much praise, and that’s just to mention a few.
It is a modern fragrance with a regal, old-money character that opens with a zesty combination of cold-pressed Italian bergamot and pink pepper, lending the citrus a fresh, botanical touch and a slight green crackle that makes it seem alive.
To me, it reminds one of strolling through a citrus orchard in southern Croatia in the early morning—crisp, refreshing, and perfectly clean.
HEART NOTES
After about 20 minutes, the bright citrus initial spark settles into a smooth, architectural heart. This is where the star ingredient—a duo of Haitian and Madagascar vetiver—takes centre stage.
If you are familiar with fragrances such as the Encre Noire line or any of the Terre d’Hermes fragrances, you are in the right ballpark for what to expect, even though this vetiver is slightly cleaner.
Pierre Guéros presents a vetiver that is tailored, dry, green, and subtly smoky. The vetiver is anchored by a dry cedarwood backbone that adds structure and strength, reminiscent of crisp tailored linen.
By this point, you already know that you are grateful to own this scent before inevitable reformulations, which will definitely lower its quality in the next five to ten years.
Almost everything in modern perfumery is synthetic, and so is this one, except for vetiver and myrrh, so it never smells artificial; that couldn’t be said for way too many other perfumes.
BASE NOTES
As the scent progresses into its fourth hour, it enters its final and most intriguing phase: the dry down. The vibrant woods blend with a smooth, warm foundation of myrrh absolute and patchouli oil.
The myrrh brings subtle balsamic warmth and a hint of sweet, amber-like resin without making the fragrance sugary or heavy.
The patchouli remains clean, earthy, and refined, adding depth that lingers close to the skin. The late dry down creates an inviting blend of clean woods and warm resins, resulting in an aura of quiet confidence.
All in all, I wish more modern fragrances were in this category; even if they are not super original, the perfumer’s idea is properly realised.
PERFORMANCE & APPEAL
Performance is solid for most occasions. With a few extra sprays on hair or clothing, you can easily enjoy more than four to six hours of wear.
Where it could improve is in projection and sillage, which fade noticeably after the first hour.
Who will appreciate this perfume? Anyone seasoned in the fragrance hobby, and everyone weary of the endless wave of sweet and aquatic scents.
Whether you have settled down with a family and a thriving career, or you roam the globe in search of new experiences, L’Homme is made for you.
Compliments may be rare, and this is not a scent for those seeking the spotlight. It is a fragrance for personal pleasure, quietly expressing maturity and self-assurance.
OCCASSIONS & VALUE
Elie Saab L’Homme excels in its versatility. It is crafted with a structured approach, making it one of the most dependable signature scents on the market today.
Spring and fall are ideal seasons to wear this fragrance. Crisp spring air enhances the green botanical facet of the pink pepper leaves and allows the Haitian vetiver to shine with exceptional clarity.
At the same time, as temperatures drop during the fall, the warm myrrh and patchouli base notes come alive. The contrast between cold autumn breezes and the warm, balsamic dry-down is cosy and comforting.
Uniqueness ain’t its best feature, since you’ve probably smelled something similar, but when we focus on what’s been released in the last 10-plus years, it is more than good enough to say it’s more unique than most designers today.
Priced at approximately $125 for a 100ml EDP (and often available at favourable price points through authorised discount retailers), Elie Saab L’Homme offers incredible value.
Considering the quality of the bottle, the master perfumer’s credit, the high concentration of natural vetiver oils, and its decent longevity, it easily rivals much more talked-about perfumes.
BEFORE YOU BUY ELIE SAAB L’HOMME
Before investing in a full bottle, here are the eight most critical facts you need to know about Elie Saab L’Homme:
- 1. It Is Not a Generic “Blue” Fragrance: Despite launching in an era dominated by synthetic ambroxan-heavy freshies, L’Homme is a structured woody-vetiver fragrance centred around natural botanicals, clean woods, and warm resins.
- 2. Exceptional EDP Mix: Unlike many modern designer releases that are completely one-dimensional, L’Homme has a true top-to-bottom progression.
- 3. Crafted by Master Perfumer Pierre-Constantin Guéros: The nose behind this creation is Pierre-Constantin Guéros, renowned for his ability to merge classical European structure with rich, oriental resinous warmth.
- 4. Zero Sugary Sweetness: If you are searching for a hyper-sweet bubblegum or vanilla gourmand winter scent, look elsewhere. The dry down here is dry, earthy, and warm, featuring a sophisticated touch of myrrh and patchouli.
- 5. The Perfect Hybrid DNA: Fragrance collectors often describe L’Homme as the ultimate bridge between the mass appeal and cleanliness of Dior Sauvage and the mature, earthy sophistication of Terre d’Hermès.
- 6. Unmatched Office & Business Suit Versatility: This is arguably one of the most professional signature fragrances released in recent years. It projects cleanliness, composure, and quiet confidence without overpowering a room.
- 7. All-Weather Usability: The bright Italian citrus and dual-vetiver heart shine in spring and summer heat, while the balsamic myrrh base provides enough weight to cut through winter cold.
- 8. Collector-Grade Bottle Presentation: Manufactured under the oversight of the Lalique Group, the bottle features gradient black lacquering and a heavy, textured leather-effect cap that rivals niche fragrances costing twice as much.

FINAL WORDS

A very good release that could have been better in terms of performance, but I’m just nitpicking now.
Still, this house is not new to the market, even though this is their first men’s release, and some “beginner’s mistakes” could have been avoided.
Anyway, I think that it deserves a chance, especially if you can get a better deal from fragrance discounters. Ignore the online badmouthing; you could do a lot worse for the same or a larger sum of money.
